The June 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Dawn of Doable and Delicious. Dawn challenged the Daring Bakers’ to make Chocolate Pavlovas and Chocolate Mascarpone Mousse. The challenge recipe is based on a recipe from the book Chocolate Epiphany by Francois Payard.
As you may have noticed, the picture above does not match this description. I thought the chocolate pavlovas looked a little too rich so I decided to go a little more traditional for this challenge. I followed the pavlova recipe from Almost Bourdain and topped it instead with homemade whipped cream, fresh berries, and a sprinkling of white chocolate.

This is an easy one guys. Easy and delicious! I think we are all familiar with the boy/girl scout favorite lovingly known as an egg in a hole (or toad in a hole, or egg in a basket). The basic idea is that an egg is fried within a perimeter of toasted bread and the result is certainly better than the sum of its parts.
But this post is not about the breakfast you remember as a child. This post is about a more grown-up and healthful breakfast inspired by that childhood favorite.

|Vanilla Whoopie pictures courtesy of my cousin, LA|
People are saying that Whoopie Pies are the new cupcake. I don't know about that, but I do know that they are delicious and incredibly versatile. Whoopie pies hail from the northeast where the have aparently been popular for quite some time, but recently they have been traveling the globe, spreading their goodness wherever they go. [insert cheeky music here] Here you will find two Whoopie pie recipes. The first is for a vanilla whoopie that hails from the kitchen of my cousin, LA, in the UK. She made them for her mom's group and they were a big hit and inspired me to try a batch of my own. Now, her's were vanilla but I'm a chocolate girl, so I did a little research to find a great chocolate recipe. (Although I've also included her instructions to easily adapt the vanilla recipe into almost any flavor combination imaginable!) The vanilla recipe is from the June addition of Sainsbury's magazine, and I found the second recipe on Gourmet's website. So, this is a truly International Whoopie Extravaganza!
|Next to the vanilla whoopies, with the pretty pink middle and frosting, mine look kind of boring, don't you think?|
